Kasey Bozeman, University of Georgia As the world population expands, there is a critical need to address food supply concerns. Apples are consistently one of the most consumed fruits in the United States and globally, as raw fruits, baked items, juices, and ciders. Georgia 4-H developed a lesson that teaches upper elementary and middle school youth about apple breeding and reproduction. Perfect for the holiday season! Attendees will learn about the curriculum and the variety of activities to introduce to youth including how to make apple prints, practicing grafting, and completing a color-along reading story. Since apples can be grown in every state, the content can be used by 4-H clubs across the nation. |

Sharon Toth Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Hunterdon County Use the “CSI Effect,” the growing interest in forensics sparked by crime-scene investigation TV shows, to turn student curiosity into meaningful learning. This session introduces educators to ap0proachable forensic and biological anthropology activities that help youth analyze evidence, use scientific vocabulary, and see how STEM disciplines come together in real investigative work. Participants will learn how to use this curriculum with their students, including ways to structure small lab groups and assign roles that build communication and teamwork skills. The session also highlights ways to build critical thinking and problem-solving skills by encouraging youth to examine all evidence, avoid quick assumptions, and make thoughtful, evidence-based decisions. |
