4-H Military Partnership
Military readiness through 4-H positive youth development for youth, families, and communities
The 4-H Military Partnership Leadership Academy supports Extension professionals working with military-connected youth as they understand themselves as leaders, understand others as leaders of an organization, and understand leadership at the community level. The focus connects leadership concepts to work with military-connected audiences and increases the participants’ capacity to enhance programming across the enterprise.
Participants attending 4-HMPLA will be trained in the Personify Leadership material developed by Angela Sebaly and Michelle Cummings at the initial meeting. Subsequent meetings and virtual connections will dive deeper into the material and focus on eight leadership components via select readings, discussions, and training activities. Participants may have an opportunity to visit a military child and youth programs facility to observe, learn about the local partnership, and 4-H experiences for military-connected youth. Each sessions introduces specific leadership strategies and identify best practices and techniques to build strong partnerships within military-connected youth programs. After completing the Personify Leadership training, observing strong partnerships in action, and reflecting on personal experiences, 4-HMPLA participants will have a greater understanding of effective leadership strategies to help build partnerships in the community. |
At the conclusion of the 4-HMPLA participants will create an action plan and implement a leadership program, project, club, or similar event with military-connected youth, teens, and/or professionals in their community and provide updates to North Carolina State University.
