Liaison Designation The 4-H Military Liaison is an Extension professional who serves as a connection between the state extension program, military service branches in the state, and the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA). The role of the Extension 4-H Military Liaison is to coordinate, network, and facilitate programs and resources by collaborating with various partners at the university level, military organizations, and other stakeholders throughout the state. This position focuses on supporting military-connected families, children, and youth programming.
The appointment of the 4-H Military Liaison is at the discretion of the state extension director. This decision will take into account the individual's qualifications and the appropriate full-time equivalent (FTE) hours, which will be determined based on the state's capacity and the demographics relevant to engaging with the military population.
Scope of Work Program Advocacy and Development:
Advocate for military-connected youth and families through statewide programming initiatives.
Integrate military 4-H clubs and members into county and state 4-H youth development programs, ensuring full access to available opportunities.
Collaboration and Partnerships:
Collaborate with University and Extension professionals, military partners, and statewide organizations to enhance military programming.
Facilitate connections between military entities and broader university objectives to support military-connected youth and families.
Grant Management:
Serve as Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) on grants focused on serving military children, youth, and families.
Coordinate efforts among faculty and staff involved in specific grant programs, focusing on community partnerships, 4-H clubs, camping, mentorship, and other initiatives.
Reporting and Evaluation:
Act as the primary contact for all state-required grant reporting, ensuring accurate data collection and reporting on project outcomes and successes.
Lead evaluation efforts for military-child and youth programs in the state, identifying effective practices and areas for improvement.
Training and Resources:
Provide training and technical assistance to Extension staff, enhancing their understanding of military partnerships and programming.
Develop and deliver educational opportunities, utilizing resources such as 4-H 101 and the Tech Discovery curriculum to support military youth and families.
Networking and Support:
Host and facilitate meetings with a diverse group of representatives to coordinate military programming, engaging military and other statewide partners.
Participate in relevant meetings and training sessions to enhance the effectiveness of the State 4-H/Extension Liaison role.
Communication and Updates
Provide regular updates to Extension Administration, including the State 4-H Program Leader and Extension Director, on military program initiatives and developments.
