We are excited to offer the opportunity for military teens (and adults who work with them) to join together virtually for community conversations. The project is a collaboration between the J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development, a public service and outreach unit at the University of Georgia and the 4-H Military Partnership project at North Carolina State University. We will use Zoom as our platform for participation and we need each participant, youth or adult, to be on an individual device. Our discussion is not designed for multiple viewers on one device. During the conversation, you will share with your peers about your experiences, ideas, and hopes for the future. Teens will chat with teens and adults with adults. You will have a peer facilitator and, if you are in a youth room, with adult chaperones who also serve as note takers. This is a great chance to meet others and elevate your voices.
Can I sign up without an adult (or without a teen)? Ideally we would each organization or program to have a youth and a teen participate. You may select different dates for your conversation but we would prefer to have both teens and adults working with military-connected youth representing a program.
Who do I contact to see if my program already has someone signed up? If you are unsure you may contact your local 4-H educator, your state 4-H military liaison, or send us an email.
What do I need to participate virtually? Each participants needs will connect via Zoom from a personal device (phone, tablet, or computer). We prefer that each person is on a singular device rather than being paired with another or part of a large group watching together.
What if I can't stay the entire session? We hope each participant will select a session where he or she can participate for the full event; however, you are able to leave at any time should you have another commitment or want to end your participation in the conversations. Are you recording the session? Each session is recorded to assist in the collection of data. However, the information collected will not be stored with your name and information associated with it. Additionally, we may take photos during the session for 4-H and the services to use at a later time. Again, your full name will not be associated with your photo.
