Frequently Asked Questions Regional Program for Extension Faculty and Staff
We are excited to offer regional programs for our Extension faculty and staff working with military-connected families. Our sessions are offered at a dozen different locations and provide those of us working with military-connected families the opportunity to learn, share, and grow together. Our goals of the sessions are to connect those who share our excitement, our challenges, and our experiences working in military-communities and provide space to discover strategies to support our military communities.
Who can attend? Any Extension faculty or staff members who work with military-connected families. This includes those near installations and those with geographically dispersed families in their area. Do I need to attend the entire session? Yes! Participants need to commit to the full event, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Day 1 and 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Day 2.. A participant may select any location. We have given this option knowing that for some participants dates are more critical than location. We do have two optional events, dinner and an evening activity. As these are optional, participants may choose at registration their plans. What do you need for registration? Registration is your commitment to attend. The registration online form includes your personal information as well as how you intend to travel to the conference. If you are flying, you will include your preferred flights for NCSU to make your travel arrangements. Additionally, you will select your arrival dates, your lodging choice (single or double) and your plans for the optional programming. Do I book my own hotel room? No, NCSU will book rooms based on your request for occupancy and arrival and departure. Your room will be direct-billed. You will likely need a credit card to secure incidentals at the hotel but you will not be paying and waiting to be reimbursed. How soon should I get my flight? You won't book your flight. NCSU will book your flight from the information provided. You will receive confirmation with your reservation number from our team. What is my cost for the meeting? Your reasonable and allowable travel costs can be reimbursed through NCSU. NCSU will purchase airline tickets and pay for those directly. Hotel rooms will be direct billed and meals during the meeting will be provided. For other expenses such as ground transportation, you will be reimbursed per NCSU travel policies. What is the optional dinner activity and evening session? Our evening session focuses on experiential facilitation and will dive into ideas to connect, debrief, and reflect in training with youth and adults. The time is an active hands-on session with participants adding a number of quick tools to their tool box. Dinner also is a planned meal with some fun tied to to learning. In both cases, all of our activities can be easily replicated in any audience. For those commuting, it is your options to join us or return home. We have planned activities that are beneficial to you as an Extension professional but not required to participate fully in the event. Can I host an Encore in my area? Yes, we'd love to come to your area. As a host, you will need to confirm that you can commit to having atleast 10 participants (Extension staff working with military-connected youth and families) register for the event. While we will promote nationwide, your promotion is essential. Additionally, you will make preliminary plans within guidelines for a meeting location. We'll handle the rest!
