Military Teen Adventure Camp RFA Released by Purdue Extension
Due November 30th, 12 p.m.
Purdue Extension is extending an opportunity to our land-grant university colleagues to support military teens by hosting military teen adventure camps during summer 2024. As part of an ongoing partnership between the Department of Defense, Military Community and Family Policy, Office of Military Community & Family Policy and USDA/NIFA, this project and funding allows the Extension system to offer military teens some of the best “adventure” camping opportunities that can be found across the nation.
The camping opportunities funded under this award are designed for military youth, ages 13-18 of Active Duty, Guard, Reserve and Retired military personnel at regional locations around the United States. We will be looking at efforts to recruit participants who are new to the MTAC experience and who represent diverse audiences. The design of the camp programs should be high energy, high adventure, and high experience, while engaging youth in a unique outdoor experience that allows them to build leadership, self-confidence, and teamwork skills. We are also looking for camps that focus on the mental health and well-being of each camper. The camp experiences must be research-based with an evaluation component (provided by Purdue), and will include coordination of all registration and logistics, including travel for the youth registered to attend. Camping experiences must be offered at minimal charge and made available to all military youth regardless of where they live.
Linked below is the RFA announcement to provide guidance to those who choose to respond to the request. RFA responses are due by November 20, 2023 at 12:00 p.m., for camps that may be conducted between 5-1-24 and 7-31-24.. RFA’s will be accepted from any Land Grant University, including 1862 public universities; 1890 historically black colleges and universities; and 1994 tribal colleges and universities.
To learn more about past camps, visit the website. Purdue will host a brief webinar to answer questions and provide an overview of the program intent on Friday, October 20 at 1:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
